KEISUKE NODA
Born in Urakawa, Hokkaido in 1978, Noda was exposed to plastering at an early age, learning the basics through assisting his father in the family business. He found himself mesmerised by the work of Naoki Kusumi – one of Japan’s most prominent plasterers – and at the age of 25 became his apprentice. He would later return to Urakawa to start his own career in earthen plastering.
Noda works with local materials from Hokkaido and across Japan when creating his clay walls (“tsuchikabe”), utilising their characteristic properties in his craft. In addition, he has dedicated himself to sharing the beauty of clay and traditional artisan skills, taking part in restoration projects, art instalments, and workshops.
