【EVENT】For the first time in Sapporo, Artist Misato Oka will host “Would you like me to draw your profile?”

“MISATO OKA: Would you like me to draw your profile?”

From its beginnings at Daikanyama T-Site in Tokyo, to Fukuoka, Kumamoto, then Nagoya, this exciting project has finally made its way to Sapporo. We are excited to host the artist at KADO Gallery from May 15, 2021.

May 15 is the International Day of Families and has been since 1994, which was proclaimed as The International Year of the Family. Although the shape and meaning of family is different to each person, we as THE KNOT have proposed this project with the hope that it will provide an opportunity to think about your loved ones.

Misato Oka’s lifework is of portraits, and is always of the left side of the face because in the Orient, going from right to left is means going towards the future. Her style is based on the traditional Japanese painting technique of using only few colors with black borders, and one of the most important factors is to meet the subject matter in person. Not only does it allow for a more realistic painting, but to select colors Oka gains hints from the aura and energy of the person to decide.

During the exhibition, 14 photos of children, adults, and animals will be on display.

On May 21 (Fri) – May 23 (Sun) Misato Oka will be in the gallery from 11:00 – 18:00 to take orders for portraits. Be it of someone you love or of the two of you together, the artist will only be in Sapporo for a limited time so don’t miss out!

For those of you who live a little bit out of Sapporo, why not take a weekend trip to visit the free exhibition and stay at THE KNOT as a base for your well-deserved getaway?
